By Registration

The process of citizenship acquisition is guided by Fijian Citizenship Act 2009 that came into force on 10 April 2009.

By Birth

Every child born in Fiji on or after the commencement date becomes a citizen at the date of birth unless, at the date of birth.

Dual Citizenship

Fiji opens doors to all Fijians living overseas

All Fijians living overseas who are registered in the Vola ni Kawa Bula and those descended from Fijians but are living overseas will qualify to enter, work, and reside in Fiji.

VKB registered Fijians overseas to work in Fiji visa-free

The Immigration Department and the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs have officially signed a memorandum of understanding that will allow Fijians living overseas who are registered under the Vola-Ni-Kawabula to work and live in Fiji visa-free.

Review of Immigration Act begins

Many people who attended the first public consultations on the review of Immigration Act 2003 agree that iTaukei people born overseas should be granted automatic Fijian citizenship rather than applying for it.
