Student Permit

Student Permit are issued to foreigners authorizing a person to study at local Secondary, Tertiary, Vocational Institutions or Universities. This section gives you an overview on how to apply for an student permit.

IMPORTANT:

Eligibility for New Applications
1. All documents must be submitted as per Student Permit Documentary Requirements;
2. Proof of qualifications and financial status;
3. Acceptance Letter from institution;
4. Scholarship Letter (sponsored students); and
5. Letter from sponsor, Copy of confirmed return air ticket/Bond and Current Financial Statement (Self-sponsored).

Eligibility for Extension Application

1. All documents must be submitted as per Student Permit Documentary Requirements.
2. Letter of acceptance from school institutions.
3. Scholarship letter (sponsored student).
4. Letter from sponsor, Copy of confirmed return air ticket/Bond and Current Financial Statement (Self-sponsored).

This applies to the following:
  • New students
  • Existing student permit holders
Criteria
  1. The Department reserves all rights to acquire additional documents for further verification, as and when required;
  2. Where a question in a particular section does not apply to you please put N/A;
  3. Providing false information in this application can lead to imprisonment or a fine or both;
  4. The principal applicants spouse and dependent children under 21 years to be included in the same form; and
  5. Applicant will be required to pay applicable fee once permit is approved.
Documentary Requirements
  1. Copy of the applicant’s bio-data page from their passport.
  2. Two (2) passport-size photographs.
  3. Applicant’s Request Letter.
  4. Local Police Report (for individuals over 18 years old who have studied for 12 months or more in Fiji).
  5. Acceptance Letter from the Institution/School.
  6. For Sponsored Students:
    • Tuvalu Gov’t Scholarship Award/Bond (if applicable).
    • Solomon Gov’t Scholarship Award (if applicable).
    • Vanuatu Gov’t Scholarship Award (if applicable).
    • Tokelau Gov’t Scholarship Award (if applicable).
    • Kiribati Gov’t Scholarship Award (if applicable).
    • Aus AID Sponsor (if applicable).
    • NZ AID Sponsor (if applicable).
  7. For Self-Sponsored Students:
    • Letter from Sponsor.
    • Copy of Confirmed Return Air Ticket/Bond.
    • Financial Statement from Sponsor (e.g., Bank Statement/Pay Slip).
  8. Letter of Support from a Local Guardian or Local Sponsor.
  9. Fees (for secondary/tertiary school students over 18 years old).
You Must:
  1. Complete prescribed application form
  2. Submit two (2) passport size photographs less than 6 months old, good quality colour, full-face view of your head and shoulders and taken against a plain or light coloured background;
  3. Submit copy of applicant’s passport bio-data page;
  4. Police reports in respect of the applicant/spouse from their countries of citizenship/residency if they have lived there for 12 months or more in the last 10 years (less than 1 year from the date of issue);
  5. Medical reports (less than 3months from the date of issue); and
  6. Translated certified copies of all non-English documents in English (registered translator).
Fees

Application for Student Permit application.

The Immigration Department will consider applications for the extension of permits on merit.

Criteria

4. The principal applicant’s spouse and dependent children should be included in the same form.
5.The applicant will be required to pay applicable Issue and Bond Fee once the permit is approved.

Documentary Requirements
  1. Copy of the applicant’s bio-data page from their passport.
  2. Two (2) passport-size photographs.
  3. Applicant’s Request Letter.
  4. Local Police Report (for individuals over 18 years old who have studied for 12 months or more in Fiji).
  5. Acceptance Letter from the Institution/School.

You Must:

1. The application should be lodged one (1) month prior to the expiry date of the permit.
2. The Department reserves all rights to acquire additional documents for further verification as and when required.
3. Where a question in a particular section does not apply to you, please put N/A.
4. Providing false information in this application can lead to imprisonment or a fine or both.
5. The principal applicant’s spouse and dependent children should be included in the same form.
6. The applicant may be required to pay a Bond Fee once the permit is approved.

Fees

Application for Student Permit application.

Standard application processing period is 21 working days. However, actual processing times may vary due to individual circumstances including:

  • Whether the applicant has lodged a complete application which includes all required documents;
  • Response to any requests for additional information
  • Time taken to perform required checks; and
  • Receiving additional information from external parties.
