Short Term Work Permit

A Short Term Work Permit is granted to a person whose expertise is urgently needed in the country to work in Fiji for a period of one year or less. Authority is under Section 9(2)(c) of the Immigration Act, 2003.

IMPORTANT:

  • Employer, organisation and institution sponsoring non-citizen to work in Fiji are to ensure that all mandatory requirements for permit applications are submitted.
  • Non-submission of any of the required documents can be grounds to decline or refuse, permit applications.
  • Employment contract which includes all non-negotiable condition is a mandatory requirement. A standard sample of employment contract in accordance to the Fiji Labour laws is available on the Fiji Immigration website.
  • Employer is responsible for returning foreign workers to home country as covered in the repatriation clause of the employment contract.
  • Employers to provide evidence that content of the employment contract is understood by the foreign worker and signed by both parties.
  • Change of employment while in country is not permitted unless approve by the Immigration Department.
  • Employers to ensure applicant’s passport is valid for the duration of permit. Application with less than 6 months passport validity will not be accepted.
  • Secondment – Employers to ensure secondment letter signed by the parent company is submitted with the application.
  • Voluntary arrangements – Organisation or company to provide letter of engagement with the application
Eligibility
  • Non-citizen currently employed by an overseas based employer.
  • Non-citizen who has employment offer.
  • Application must be made by persons over 18 years of age.
Criteria
  • Application must be filled by the Principal Applicant ONLY;
  • The Department reserves all rights to acquire additional documents for further verification, as and when required;

  • Application fee to be accompanied by the completed application form; and

Employer’s Request Letter:

  1. Request letter from the employer.

 

Company Requirements:

  1. Company profile/background.
  2. Position description, including roles of the position and any special requirements.
  3. Detailed justification for the need of the position.

 

Applicant’s Personal Documents:

  1. Police report for the applicant.
  2. Certified copy of the applicant’s passport (Bio data page).
  3. Return ticket/travel itinerary.
  4. Curriculum Vitae (CV) with:
    • Certified copies of academic qualifications.
    • Certified copies of references for proof of work experience.

 

Employer’s Business Documents:

  1. Company Registration.
  2. Certified copy of Foreign Investment Certificate (FIC).
  3. Certified copy of Investment Fiji approval.
  4. Certified copy of Business Registration.
  5. FIRCA Tax Compliance Certificate.

 

Employment Documents:

  1. Contract of Employment – Employee Contract with the Employer.
  2. Contractual Agreement of the Employer with Relevant Local Authorities.

 

Endorsements from Relevant Authorities:

  1. Endorsement from relevant authorities, including but not limited to:
  • Reserve Bank.
  • Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF).
  • Investment Fiji.
  • Legal Practitioners Unit.
  • Ministry of Education.
  • Fiji Hotel & Tourism Association.
  • Fiji Medical & Dental Association.
  • Ministry of Lands & Mineral Resources.
  • Ministry of Agriculture.
You Must:
  • complete prescribed Work Permit application form.
  • submit photographs less than 6 months old, good quality color, full-face view of your head and shoulders and taken against a plain or light colored background;
  • submit certified copies of all documents;
  • also include your family member (spouse and children under 18 years) on the same form, if applying at the same time
  • lodge application form to the nearest Fijian Immigration Office, Embassies, Fiji Consulate Offices or lodged online click here; and
  • keep a copy of your application and all attachments for your own record

  4. Request letter from the employer, including:

    • Company profile/background.
    • Position Description.
    • Roles of the position.
    • Special requirements for the position.
    • Detailed justification for the need of the position.
  5. Police Report for the principal applicant (from the country of citizenship).

  6. Medical Report for the principal applicant.

  7. Curriculum Vitae (CV) with certified copies of academic qualifications and references for proof of work experience.

  8. Advertisement: ALL positions must be advertised (recently), except for Government Contract (include certified copy of Contract Agreement).

  9. Contract of Employment (to include employment period, position, and remunerations).

  10. Endorsement from relevant Authorities, including Ministry of Education and Fiji Higher Education Commission.
